hi everyone!!
thanks for the 2 suggestions on the gibbon name... but, well... he didnt like them and has asked for more suggestions... (he is a bit stubborn) but generally he is behaving ok :)
all these questions about is he real ? what they took a real gibbon with them ? frankly the gibbon (he doesnt have a name yet) was a bit hurt... whats wrong with me? he asked... am i not good enough ? well we certainly think he is a real good gibbon (as gibbons go..) so we will continue to keep him.. and you have to continue to participate with us and find him a name!! common sis give us a try, you too yoggi!! and mom dad? why so silent all of a sudden? (he doesnt have aids - we checked) so im counting on you to add a few suggestions...
now.. as some of you have asked about what we are eating here, i have decided to tell you a bit about what we are eating. here is a partial list of stuff we have tried and liked (please add anything you think we forgot, or stuff that you liked to eat in thailand):
1) Curries - my all time favorite. After trying around 4 kinds and after much discussion i think the best is the massaman curry (im not sure its actually thai) - its a brown red curry, also called peanut curry. its damn spicy and as curries should - it makes your scalp sweat and you get all red and your nose runs and you cant get rid of the pain till after maybe 2 hours and 3 bottles of cold water :) . Its filled with peanuts, usually with potatoes and with chicken/pork/fish/sea food.
you can find a recipe for it here
2) We had a real tasty meal. Im not sure yet what its called but its similar to the korean bbq. the idea is you get in the centre of the table a bowl of hot coals, on top of which is a metallic mound plate/grill. One fills the sides with water and on top of the mound is a big chunk of pork fat that slowly melts down the mound (mmm yummm). We ate this at an all you can eat buffet (69 baht per person) with a huge selection of - chicken, pork, seafood, vegetables, sauces, rice & noodles. Now you ask what is the water on the sides for ? well the idea is to boil the noodles in it ! (or the vegetables). At the same time you place pieces of marinated raw meat of all kinds and they fry and grill in the dripping pork fat.... it was heaven - we got so stuffed... now ofcourse there is draft singha beer. and i ordered a glass and for some good reason got a 1 liter pitcher.. which was a nice surprise :)
this is a pic of the grill plate
3) now this is hila's favorite - fresh fruit - she eats maybe 3-4 pineapples a week, and lots and lots of watermelon, bananas, mango, rambutans, and we still havnt had any dragon fruit yet...
she sometimes eats it with yoghurt and muesli but most of the time the pineapple is by itself.
4) Market food - here is a small portion of the market food we sampled - we dont know the names:
deep fried pieces of dough (the size of gniochi) and you dip it in a sweet mash of pistachio (i think - it was green and nutty) :)
lotti - a "malauach" like dough fried usually filled with bananas and topped with - sweet condensed milk or chocolate.
small pieces of sausage rolled in bacon - deep fried - dipped in a sweet hot chilly sauce.
bbq pork stakes - chopped into bite size in a plastic bag :)
corn on the kob. hila likes this one.
and a lot more that we cant remember :)
5) we ate a lot of fish on the bbq and our favorite was a yellow tale for 2.
6) fruit shakes. yum yum, we had a lot of them, some of them lassis (with yoghurt). Banana + coconut, mixed fruit, mango, lemon shake (the all time refresher).
7) we ate a lot of chicken cashew nut and sweet and sour but these were not our favorites, but they were still pretty good. :)
ok, now im sure if you read all the details here you have a watering mouth - i know i do, so we are gonna catch something to eat. :)
im counting on you guys to find a name for our gibbon and who know you might win the grand prize!! - a shiny new smiling thai dog - with lots of skin problems (which can be changed to a pack of salted shrimp crackers - yummmy)
more posts will follow - including our death defying tsunami story!!
pics have been added - all of them so far - so have a look here.
the one the only Hila (at least she is sitting next to me now for a change)
& Morphhh Sleazy.

Uri,
Great pictures!!! you are an artist. I imagin that Julio had similar impression but I could not meet his expressions as they are in spanish.
Truely, I did not get the point of the Gibbon. Some times I'm worried that you had too much to drink, too much sun or something else...
Hope you enjoy the last two days in Bankok. Write more before you leave to India.
Love, Mom.
Hello!
The photos and food made me drool all over the keyboard. Seems like you're having lots and lots of fun.
A joke by Nir Weintroub: Two Israelis meet in Bangkok. So the first one asks the second - ATA ME'HAGAL HA'OLE O ME'HAGAL HA'YORED?
Enjoy India.
Tommy
PS - It seems to me that your notorious gibbon is nothing more than the grand prize itself - a flea-eaten fur-patched thai dog. In that case, I guess that Nealy and Shlomi will be happy to win it, and expand their arsenal (2nd place, BTW). As for the name - DIVLULI??
And one last comment - have you seen the Gibbon-O-Matic fortuneteller at
http://www.his.com/cgi-bin/fortune.gibbon ?
